A visit from Dan Jarvis

On 29th November, Dan Jarvis, the Mayor for the Sheffield City Region and MP for Barnsley Central joined us to plant a tree in the school grounds. We are thrilled to have been chosen for this opportunity as part of the pioneering initiative to grow a Northern Forest. We are very proud to support this campaign with the Woodland Trust as it aligns with our values to reduce, reuse and recycle in order to educate young people in the north about the impact of climate change on their environment. Our students enjoyed their morning with Dan and have promised to look after the tree as a legacy of their time at Darton and beyond. The tree that was planted was 1 of 1,000,000 that are being planted over the next 48 hours.

When the tree had been planted, our students also spent time with Dan, speaking to him about the issues that were important to them, as young people in the local area. One of our students, aspires to be Prime Minster and this provided a great opportunity for all to speak to Dan about his role and responsibilities. We also shared our plans for our own Darton election which will mirror the national election.
