On Friday 19th November 2021 there was an opportunity for Darton Academy students to take part in a careers event organised by the Academy. On the day a number of post-16 providers put on an exhibition for the Academy students. The event took place in the school’s sports hall and individual year groups were invited to attend the exhibition at some point during the day.

The providers came from a whole range of backgrounds including Further education Colleges, Higher Education Colleges and Universities, as well as local employers and providers of apprenticeships.

The aim of the day was to give Darton Academy students an idea of what to expect when they leave the Academy in order to progress with their careers at post-16 and also to help raise awareness of the career paths available to them

During the day the students were involved in the following activities: –

  • A visit to the careers event where they were be able to discuss any questions, they may have had, with the providers.
  • A follow-up activity based on any information they had discovered.
  • A 20-minute Future Friday event delivered in form time by Sheffield University.
  • During lessons, a careers in the curriculum based activity around the subjects they were taking during the day.

The day was a generic experience of what career paths may be available to students. It was a very enjoyable experience for the students and gave them a very positive insight into the requirements needed for a future career.

The providers were also surveyed on the day and saw the Darton Academy students as being extremely polite and pleasant and were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the questions asked by the students.
